DRAWING: Writing About Art / Landscape Photoshop Tutorial

PART ONE: WRITING ABOUT ART
We can see everyday things from a new perspective if we consider them in terms of the elements and principles of design. Select a natural object that you encounter in daily life. Write a descriptive paragraph (don't mention the object's name) using the terminology of the elements and principles of design. On the same document, answer the following question: Why would it be important for an artist to engage in this kind of careful looking.

PART TWO: BEAUTIFUL LANDSCAPE PHOTOSHOP TUTORIALS: DAY AND NIGHT
Before we dive into the oil pastel landscape next week, let's try your hand at a digital landscape using Photoshop. Even if you have not used Photoshop very much, I think if you follow the directions carefully, you will be successful.

DIGITAL CINEMA: Music Video

Working collaboratively with a Computer Music student, you will produce a MUSIC VIDEO. The length of your videos will vary, depending upon the music you are assigned, but they will be AT LEAST as long as the running time for the music. DO NOT CUT ANY OF THE MUSIC.

1. Listen and import the music into iTunes on your computer.

2. Meet with the computer music student who created the music.

3. Decide upon a concept for your video.

  • Will you simply “tell the story” of the song?
  • Will your video send a meaningful message?

4. Complete the Music Video Project Planning Sheet. You will not be allowed to begin filming until this sheet has been submitted and approved

5. Film your scenes.

6. Lay down your music track first in iMovie. Save project.

7. Import your footage and beging editing your video footage.

8. Add titles / transitions / other effects as needed

*** Pay careful attention to the pacing and impact of the visuals in this video. Edits should occur every 1-2 seconds and include every camera angle you can imagine. The delivery of a good concept, presentation of a strong theme, and use of effects, photographic and electronic, will all be factors.

VISUAL DESIGN: Artist Biography

The Artist Biography Project

Step 1: RESEARCH - Conduct research on your assigned artist using the web and books. You must have at least one book source and one web source. Use the Notes Sheet to write down all your information as you collect your information.
Step 2: COLLECT IMAGES - Collect at least 25 examples of your artist's work from the web. Also find an image of what your artist looked like - painting or photograph. You will also need to select 3 from your 25 to spotlight and critique in the paper and in your iMovie slideshow. You will put all these images into a folder on your desktop and then into iPhoto.
Step 3: TYPE BIOGRAPHY - You will type a biography from the information you gathered using the program called Pages. This biography will also include the critiques of the three images you selected to spotlight.
Step 4: CREATE iMOVIE - You will create an iMovie slideshow featuring your artist's work. After your biography has been graded and edited you can include the highlights of their life and career in the slideshow as well.

PHOTO TECH: iPhoneography

They say that a picture is worth a thousand words. But a picture that includes words can be even more beautiful. Combining words and images is a long-practiced art, and the painter Rene Magritte utilized this technique extensively. Some of the best known works include a mixture of words and images. There are many apps that add text to images, but they are all not equal. Here are 10 for you to check out...

  • Crop'n'Frame Give your iPhone photos a professional finish. Now with captions and metallic colors for frames, mats and type.
  • PhotoSize It lets you inspect — directly on your iPhone or iPod touch — the actual pixel dimensions of any image saved to your Camera Roll or album.
  • Phonto Phonto is a simple application that allows you to add text on image.
  • Image Blender This is a simple and clean application with a single purpose, blending together images. You can use multiple blending modes like Multiply, Overlay, Screen and many more.
  • Flowpaper "Flowpaper is an amazing physics-based art app that is capable of creating gorgeous works of art"
    -app Safari
  • WordFoto You've probably heard the tired cliche about a picture being worth a thousand words. We've taken this phrase quite literally and created WordFoto, an app that turns your photos and words into amazing typographic works of art.
  • Interlacer Interlacer combines alternating lines from multiple images and colors to make a new image. The end result can vary from a multiple exposure to a color tinted photo to a very abstract creation.
  • TypeDrawing TypeDrawing is really easy to use, but it's perfect for creating TYPOGRAPHY ART and UNIQUE WATERMARK over your photos. If you love typography, this poetic visual art app is absolutely yours.
  • Juxtaposer Juxtaposer lets you combine multiple pictures into fun photomontages quickly and easily thanks to its amazingly intuitive and responsive user interface.
  • Grungetastic Clean Photos Are So Yesterday! Grungetastic for the Photographer that loves everything grungy. Simple, fast, and the output is something very much less than elegant.
"Pictures and words go together. They both convey meaning and help us to get our intended message across to the viewer. Creatively combining the two brings power and meaning to your images" Karen Messick posts regularly to her iPhone Blog, so drop in and see what she is doing with her images and the amazing assortment of iPhone apps.
